It only takes a few notes, so we could stop here.

On Friday, December 6 the Bay Area celebrates the birthday and cultural contributions of Mr. Frankie Beverly at Oakland’s Red Bay Coffee. Born in Philadelphia on December 6, 1946, Mr. Beverly began his career in the church as a gospel singer, later releasing a handful of soulful recordings as Frankie Beverly and The Butlers. The band changed their name to Raw Sugar following a move to soulful San Francisco, and again to Maze featuring Frankie Beverly after the stylish heartthrob earned the attention of Marvin Gaye. Forty years later the magic of Maze featuring Frankie Beverly remains consistent, uniting the Global Diaspora in classics like Joy & Pain, We Are One, and Before I Let Go. Happy Birthday, Mr. Beverly. From all of us.
